Spirituality & social activism

It is not often recognised that there is an intrinsic link between spirituality and social activism.
Spiritualists are commonly viewed as people whose ideals are a far cry from our wordly reality and whose time is spent indulging in the bliss they might find within, but not without. Their quest is one for Knowledge.
Activists, on the other hand, are the ones out on the street, marching and attempting to shake up the social order. Their cry is for Action.
Yet, surely, knowledge without action is futile, while action without knowledge is unwise. There needs to be equilibrium, the two need to exist in balance with each other.
As I experience it, Spirituality is living with the awareness that everything and being in the Universe is the manifestation of one Cosmic entity. Therefore every person, animal, tree or piece of land deserves our care and reverence.
This does not seem like a lofty ideal, but a recognition of how human beings, as the wielders of our planet’s fate, can choose to live.
The activists of our societies seek equality and justice. However, without a spiritual framework on which to base our collective progress, the bigger picture as it were, can we really move together?
If we strive for the equilibrium between Knowledge and Action, then we can bring social change with universal love as our guiding force.

I like this article but feel it somehow does not state itself boldly enough.
What, if anything, are you calling for? For me it is actually possible to divorce spirituality from social action but this is done at the peril of all.
Let us call for the spiritualists to take social action and for the social activists to find a spiritual foundation from which to act.
