It was the day of the recent London bombings and I was wandering a little aimlessly through the city centre, on my way to the recording studios. A strangely ethereal sound came wafting over the hustle and bustle of the square and I was drawn to come closer.

Jali Nyonkoling Kuyateh from the Gambia was sat, busking with his kora. He’s currently living in Manchester, singing his songs and trying to earn some money. He said he wants to make a CD, but doesn’t know who can help him. So he decided to sit on the pavement of Piccadilly, waiting for someone to arrive.

It reminded me a little of the Buddha – sat determined under a tree, unwilling to move until he gained either enlightenment or death.

Store Wars: The Organic Rebellion

Free Range have made another great activist Flash movie, “Store Wars”. This time about chemical vegetables and the Organic Rebellion.

The studios previously won a webby award for their movie “The Meatrix”, about the meat industry.

They are a talented bunch, using their time and skills for promoting ethical causes through multimedia. In their words:

We know we could be using our talents to sell cheeseburgers or sneakers, but we feel that an inherent part of creativity is the creation of something positive and meaningful.

I see they are also making a $15,000 grant to assist an ethical organisation communicate their message through the Web. Hmmm…

Previously (here and here), the subject of creating and broadcasting videos came up.

So, for the benefit of anyone who is interested in making short videos (anything from 20 seconds long) and publishing them for all on the Web, I have gathered a few good resources to get you started:
