Blog
From Dharmasphere
Short for weblog, a blog is a website - or part of a website - on the World Wide Web where periodic articles are published. The latest articles usually appear at the top of the page so that frequent visitors can easily access the latest content.
Blogs are an easy tool for non-technical web users to maintain an up-to-date journal on the Web. The blogging software is usually either stored on the user's own website, or on a third-party blog host.
As an example, see the Dharmasphere blog.

Self-Hosting vs Third Party Hosts
The advantages of hosting one's own blog is that the software can be fully customised by the user to give any desired appearance or functionality. The web address would also be chosen by the user and the blog could integrate with other features on the user's site.
Third Party hosts are ideal for beginners or those who don't want to get involved with the technical issues of hosting their own site. Hosted blogs typically exist in a community of blogs on the host site, allowing interaction and exposure to new readers.
The web address on a hosted blog will typically be similar to http://username.bloghostcompany.com. One issue with this is that if you later move your blog to your own website and if your first blog was highly rated by search engines, those engines will not transfer the blog's popularity to the new website.
